Tea Leaf Dyeing — dye fabric with reused tea leaves
Tea Leaf Dyeing — dye fabric with reused tea leaves: a natural dyeing with tea & plants workshop with Yurika Saito in Wedding, Berlin. Date: Sat 7 Nov · 11:30, €45–55. 1.5 h · EN · JA.
A Tokyo-born textile artist who has lived in Berlin since 2019, painting, embroidering and dyeing. Her Living Dyeing project colours fabric with what the city throws away: tea leaves already brewed in Berlin restaurants, onion skins, vegetable peel, coffee grounds. This is Kusaki-zome, the Japanese way of dyeing with plants, and with tea the tannin meets iron to give soft greys, warm browns and deep blue-blacks, never twice the same. Her workshops are slow and hands-on and made for beginners. You learn the technique and some shibori tie-dye, then dye a linen chabu tea mat or a cotton furoshiki to take home, or bring a piece of your own. A member of the Berlin Handcrafts Collective, she has taught natural dyeing across Germany.
