Natural dyeing with tea & plants with Yurika Saito

Book a natural dyeing with tea & plants workshop in Berlin with Yurika Saito, Living Dyeing Project, Craftkai, Manifesto Berlin · silent green, Wedding. 4 upcoming dates, the next: Sat 17 Oct · 11:00, €72. Small groups · 1.5–2 h · EN · JA.

A Tokyo-born textile artist who has lived in Berlin since 2019, painting, embroidering and dyeing. Her Living Dyeing project colours fabric with what the city throws away: tea leaves already brewed in Berlin restaurants, onion skins, vegetable peel, coffee grounds. This is Kusaki-zome, the Japanese way of dyeing with plants, and with tea the tannin meets iron to give soft greys, warm browns and deep blue-blacks, never twice the same. Her workshops are slow and hands-on and made for beginners. You learn the technique and some shibori tie-dye, then dye a linen chabu tea mat or a cotton furoshiki to take home, or bring a piece of your own. A member of the Berlin Handcrafts Collective, she has taught natural dyeing across Germany.
